FOOT CARE FOR DIABETIC PATIENTS - DOS AND DON'TS

Wear shoes or slippers at all times.
 
Don't go barefoot - either indoors or outdoors.
 
Foot Care for Diabetic Patients
Do's
Notice and feel your feet daily for blisters, open sores, cuts, colour changes, or ingrown toe nails.
Wash your feet daily with soap and lukewarm water. Take care to wash between toes.
Keep your feet dry especially between toes. Use powder if needed.
Keep your skin soft. Put lotion on top and bottom of your feet. Do not apply between toes.
Cut toe nails straight across
Change daily into clean socks which must fit well and have no holes or tears.
Wear comfortable shoes that fit well.
Examine your shoes everyday for pebbles, nails and any irritating objects.
Have your feet checked by your doctor.

Don'ts

Don't let your feet get dry and cracked
Don't use hot water to wash your feet
Don't wear torn or tight shoes
Don't wear tight socks or knee-highs.
Don't use corn medicines or blades
D'ont use heater or hot water bottles to warm your feet; they can cause harm.
