Some Weight Loss Tips

Here are some of the things I learnt along the way, in my effort to lose weight.

No one can push you into losing weight, you have to make that decision all by yourself. And once you’ve made it, you have to keep in mind that it is not going to be easy. There will be sacrifices to be made along the way, favourite foods you will have to give up or at least cut down, on, and lots of exercising to do. But it will be worth it, when you find yourself slowly losing those unwanted kilos. Always start your meal with liquids (soup, coconut water, thin lassi, lime juice, nimbu soda, or two glasses of water) and a salad, which will prevent you from eating too much of the main course. And never, never skip a meal. You should have a breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as something light mid morning and at tea-time. Not more than twenty per cent of your calories should come from oil, so intake of oily foods, butter etc. should be minimal. Avoid red meat, egg yolks and shrimp as much as possible, as they are very fattening.

Two fruits to avoid when trying to lose weight are mangoes and bananas, because they are high in calories. But once you’ve lost the weight, doctors say that one banana a day is excellent. I don’t agree with people who claim that you can’t have fruits along with your meal. This is just a fad, if you ask me. In fact, weight watchers who are used to taking a sweet after their food, would do very well to take a fruit instead.

There is no need to avoid eating anything, even pizzas and burgers, so long as it is in moderation. For instance, if I feel like a samosa at lunch. I don’t deprive myself. Instead, I compensate for it by having less at dinner-time. If you don’t feel deprived, you are less likely to go on eating binge.

Another thing – crash dieting is an absolute no-no. It is not safe to lose more than 4 kgs a month or you are in danger of damaging your heart. In addition, there are other side effects like hairloss.

Motivation

As I said earlier, it’s essential to find an exercise that you enjoy doing, rather than one which bores you. This will help you to stay motivated. Exercise plays an important role in toning of the body after weight-loss is achieved. For me, the biggest motivating factors are my clients. The reason I’m so successful with them is because I’ve been through it all myself. And all the compliments I get are another reason not to slip up. I can now wear whatever I like, including fitted Western wear. And recently, my husband and I won a prize for the best looking couple at the PVR cinema complex! Not too bad for the 35 years old mother of a 12 years old son, huh? For all those people who would like to lose weight, I have just one thing to say, “Go for it”. It’s definitely worth the effort
